Browsing and Analyzing the Command-Level Structure of Large Collections of Image Manipulation Tutorials
نویسندگان
چکیده
Many people rely on Web-based tutorials to learn how to use complex software. Yet, it remains difficult for users to systematically explore the set of tutorials available online. We present Sifter, an interface for browsing, comparing and analyzing large collections of image manipulation tutorials based on their command-level structure. Sifter first applies supervised machine learning to identify the commands contained in a collection of 2500 Photoshop tutorials obtained from the Web. It then provides three different views of the tutorial collection based on the extracted command-level structure: (1) A Faceted Browser View allows users to organize, sort and filter the collection based on tutorial category, command names or on frequently used command subsequences, (2) a Tutorial View summarizes and indexes tutorials by the commands they contain, and (3) an Alignment View visualizes the commandlevel similarities and differences between a subset of tutorials. An informal evaluation (n=9) suggests that Sifter enables users to successfully perform a variety of browsing and analysis tasks that are difficult to complete with standard keyword search. We conclude with a meta-analysis of our Photoshop tutorial collection and present several implications for the design of image manipulation software. متن کاملمرور مؤثر نتایج جستجوی تصاویر با تلخیص بصری و متنوع از طریق خوشهبندی
With unprecedented growth in production of digital images and use of multimedia references, requirement of image and subject search has been increased. Systematic processing of this information is a basic prerequisite for effective analysis, organization and management of it. Likewise, large collections of images have been made available on the Web and many search engines have provided the poss...
متن کاملEvaluating similarity-based visualisations as interfaces for image browsing
Large collections of digital images are becoming more and more common, and the users of these collections need computer-based systems to help them find the images they require. Digital images are easy to shrink to thumbnail size, allowing a large number of them to be presented to the user simultaneously. Generally, current image browsing interfaces display thumbnails in a twodimensional grid, i...
متن کاملPhoto Browsing with Collage Trees
Recent advances in technology have made it possible for the average person to acquire thousands of high resolution digital photographs per year. While there are clear advantages to having the ability to amass such large collections it creates new problems when trying to organize, browse and generally interact with the photos. In this paper we introduce the concept of a Photo Collage Tree, a str...
متن کاملBrowsing image collections with representations of common-sense activities
To support browsing-based subject access to image collections, it is necessary to provide users with networks of subject terms that are organized in an intuitive, richly interconnected manner. A principled approach to this task is to organize the subject terms by their relationship to activity contexts that are commonly understood among users. This article describes a methodology for creating n...
